Sligo Baroque Festival
Baroque Music Festival
The 28th Sligo Baroque Music Festival is set to offer an exciting weekend of concerts, workshops and youth outreach performances.
A first in the history of the festival will be a fully staged Baroque opera, Handel’s beloved pastoral comedy Acis and Galatea. Singers and players of Collegium Marianum from Prague together with Buchty & Loutky Marionette Company will bring this acclaimed production to the Hawk’s Well Theatre, Sligo.
The festival will also feature –
- Mezzo-soprano Sharon Carty (star of INO’s recent Cosi Fan Tutte) with an enchanting selection of Baroque opera arias
- Sligo Baroque Orchestra performing concerti grossi by Handel, Corelli, Avison and Barsanti
- Royal Irish Academy of Music graduate instrumental ensemble will give a recital and take Baroque performances into schools
- Interactive marionette workshop with Buchty & Loutky
- Sligo Academy of Music showcase concert
- Soiree for the King Collegium Marianum – pieces for flute, theorbo and viola da gamba
- Meditations Collegium Singers – sacred motets by French composers of the seventeenth century
- festival buffet and reception
And, inspired by the success of our Culture Night concert last year, we are joining with the Hawk’s Well Theatre for Culture Night 2023, Friday 22 September, for a new performance of the 2018 hit Tradroque. This collaboration of a host of traditional Irish musicians with Sligo Baroque Orchestra promises yet again to have audiences on their feet.
